Sheikh Mustafa Haji

S heikh Mustafa Haji Ismail Harun is one of the most respected and educated Islamic Scholars in the Somali community right now and also counted as one of the most respected Somali scholars in the history. Sheikh Mustafa earned that much respect through his thorough research of reading science and economic books which sets him totally different from the other Somali Scholars. He also gives lectures about History of Islam to compare it with the current state of the world especially the Muslim Community hence encouraging the youth to follow the footsteps of the golden generations

He was born in the rural areas of Burao, Somalia before the country’s independence. Although it is not officially confirmed, it is said that the Sheikh was born between 1955 to 1960, and he spent his formative years in a rural areas of Burao where he was born. As he narrated as obviously known to many, Sheikh Mustafa hails from a religious family where a good number of his forefathers were Islamic Scholars. He completed his primary education in the in the Togdheer region Somalia then enrolled at the German Institute in Burao. Later on, the much loved Sheikh graduated from Somali University in 1980 with a degree in electrical engineering after which he focused on religion matters where by the help of the Islamic scholars who were in Somalia at the time he learned a lot about islam. He accepted a position as a teacher at the technical school in Burao that Germany had established, but after around 15 months there, Sheikh Mustafa was jailed by the Somali government.

One of the most influential and popular lectures he gave in 2023 was one in which he gave advice on marriage to young people, urging them to get married while they are still young so that they can build their life in this world and the hereafter. Although this lecture was not the only one that has taken over the social media by storm in 2023, but when you look at the number of channels, pages and profiles which the video of that lecture has been shared and the comments made by the young people that was intended for, it is clear that it has touched and affected many young boys and girls.
