The story of the Hiraan region is one of the most unfortunate one in somalia, one may conclude that the area has been complety ignored by successive regional and federal governments. Donors also overlooked the area by sending only groups who are known to be unscrupulous and have been accused of plundering humanitarian cash; more than 85 percent of the monies are always misappropriated, the region is now the most affected in terms of the draughts.
This unfortunate condition has resulted in inadequate or nonexistent public amenities in the Hiran area. The sole referral hospital covering Hiran and numerous other districts is inoperable due to a lack of maintenance, medication, and medical personnel; as a result, the suffering of the people has increased.
The former federal government’s imposition of an alliance between the Hiran and upper Shabelle districts to establish the Hirshabelle state exacerbated the situation in the region. Beledwein airport is a notable example; its impending construction has been delayed since the age of the warlords.
