The Somali Immigration and Citizenship Authority and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) have signed a significant cooperation agreement today. The agreement will focus on key areas such as combating organized crime, enhancing travel security, strengthening collaboration between the Immigration and Citizenship Authority and Interpol, improving the security skills of immigration officers, and searching for missing persons.

These efforts aim to fortify national security, streamline immigration processes, and tackle cross-border criminal activities more effectively.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Head of Interpol Somalia, General Dhoore, commended the Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Authority, Mustafe Sheikh Ali Duhulow, for his efforts in successfully implementing this crucial agreement in such a short time. He also expressed his gratitude to the Immigration and Citizenship Authority team for their tireless efforts in facilitating the agreement.

On his part, the Director General, Mustafe Sheikh Ali Duhulow, thanked both the Immigration and Citizenship Authority team and Interpol, particularly their leadership in Somalia. He emphasized the importance of this agreement in strengthening efforts to combat extremism and prevent travel-related crimes in Somalia, the region, and globally.

“This partnership marks a significant step in our fight against organized crime and illegal migration. We are committed to working closely with Interpol to ensure the safety and security of our nation and beyond,” said Duhulow.

As part of the cooperation, the Director General accompanied the Interpol delegation on a visit to the Immigration Crime Prevention Office, specifically the Fraud Detection Unit (FDU). During the visit, they received a briefing from officers working at the unit.

The FDU officers showcased advanced forensic science equipment used to combat organized crimes such as document forgery, counterfeit identification, and distinguishing genuine travel documents from fraudulent ones.
