In a well-organized event in the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu, the center of the Regional Somali Language Academy was inaugurated by his Excellency President Dr. Hassan sheikh Mohamud and his Djibouti counterpart H.E Ismail Omar Guelleh. Prime Minister Hamze Andi Bare, state ministers, some members of the both houses of parliament were present.

In the ribbon cutting event, neighboring countries were well represented. Mustafa Muhume Omar, the pesident of the Somali Region, Aden Duale, the defense minister of Kenya, Nathif Jama Aden, Garissa county Governor among others attended to witness this historic milestone.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who made a speech at the event thanked his brother President Ismail Omar Guelle and the government of Djibouti for the implementation of the Regional Academy of the Somali Language, a move he said will save the future generations, culture and history of the Somali nation and further develop the Somali language.
“The Somali language is the glue that holds the Somali nation together. It is the only record that carries culture, history and heritage knowledge that has been passed on from generation to generation. It is the mark and search that makes us different from other nations in the world” he said.
The President urged the Somali choirs and content creators to strengthen their role in educating the public and enlightening the government, as the foundation that guides Somali literature, language and culture is now in place.
On his part, the President of the fraternal Republic of Djibouti, Mr. Ismail Omar Guelleh, noted the great benefits for all Somali people in the implementation of the regional Somali language academy, and pointed out the efforts of his government to build it, as it is central to the preservation of unity of the Somali people.
The writing and the documentation of the Somali language began in the 1972 when the country was ruled by the revolutionary government lead by the late Mohamed Siyad Bare, since then it went under different stages and circumstances.
This Regional Somali language academy is first of its kind in the country and it is supposed to make huge difference in uplifting the languag.
